The State of Education

"Waiting for Superman" is a documentary about the American education system.  The movie talks about how American schools are failing because the current education programs are not working.  The documentary also showed how people have to enter their children in "lotteries" in order for them to recieve the best education.  I feel that the state of education is at an all time low and we as futur educators need to find a soultion to the nation's problems.  This movie made me sad after I watch it.  I feel that every child in the U.S.A should recieve a quality education regaurdless of their race or economic status. A child shoud not have to enter a lottery and attend a school that is thirty minuts to an hour away from their home.  They should be able to recieve a quality education in their neighborhood.

My experiences with exceptionalities

children_heart.jpg

I have had several experiences with children with exceptionalities. I have a family member who has a learning disabilities and I also have another family member that has dyslexia so I have seen personally how exceptionalities affect a learner’s work.  Working in the field at Hunt Elementary I have had experiences with students with exceptionalities as well.  A student in my classroom has an Emotional Disability and he often breaks down in class because he has so much frustration and anger inside of him.
There are also several students with learning disabilities as well.  As educators we have to provide accommodations for them.  While some of the students work on one particular lesson, we have to assists the students with learning disabilities to make sure that they understand the lesson.  As the Hispanic population grows in Georgia there is an increasing amount of students with English as a second language. Accommodations have to be provided for these students as well. There are several students in my classroom that has English as a second language and we would have to walk around and make sure that they understand the curriculum, and if not we would have to assist them.

I AM

Iam deterrmined and simplistic
I wonder will there ever be a cure for cancer
I hear thousands of birds
I see the ocean breeze
I want to achieve all my goals that I set for myself
I am determined and simplistic
I pretend that I can fly
I feel high on God's love
I touch the sky and heavens above
I worry that I my grandfather will not see me graduate college because he is ill
I cry when I think about how good God has been to me
I am determined and simplistic
I understand that everybody will not be in my life forever
I say that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to
I dream of world peace
I hope that one day we will unite as one
I am determined and simplistic

The 21st Century classroom

When I think of the 21st century classroom I  feel that everything will be more technology based because of our world today.  In today's society, everyone has acess to cell phones, ipods, ipads, notebooks, or laptop computers that they carry around everywhere.  I have family members as young as 7 with cell phones that they use everyday. Our generation is moving from print books and magazines to electronically based books and magazines. Objects like Kindles are prime examples of how things are changing.
I also feel that the 21st century classroom will focus more on math and science concepts to keep up with other international countries because the United States has started to fall behind in educational achievements in these areas.  In other countries students learn their native language as well as another language and I feel that United States should do the same thing as well in the 21st century.  As a nation, we are falling behind and other countries are advancing so we should focus on more way to see what and how we can imporve our schools in the 21st century.
